John Carrafa



John Carrafa choreographs for film, television and Broadway, splitting his time between Los Angeles and New York. He’s one of a handful of choreographers known for earning two Tony Nominations in the same year—for Broadway’s URINETOWN and INTO THE WOODS. Also a veteran film and television choreographer, his upcoming work includes choreography for the new Netflix series MANIAC with Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, SUCCESSION for HBO and the film THE KITCHEN with Melissa McCarthy, Elisabeth Moss and Tiffany Haddish. He recently made his television directing debut with the show NASHVILLE and choreographed the upcoming musical film FREAKY FRIDAY for the Disney Channel. 

FILM/TV  - For his work in film and television, he’s highly regarded as both an actor’s choreographer and an innovator. He’s worked closely with some of the biggest stars in Hollywood, including Robert De Niro, Anne Hathaway, Clive Owen, Kate Hudson, and Tom Hanks. For THE POLAR EXPRESS, he pioneered the use of motion capture technology to create choreography on film. Other shows include TRANSPARENT, THE KNICK, the entire first season of EMPIRE, five seasons of NASHVILLE, THE BLACK LIST, BLUE BLOODS and BULL. STAGE  - On Broadway, he’s choreographed 10 shows including URINETOWN and INTO THE WOODS (Tony Nominations). He has an Obie Award, Lucille Lortel Award and Dora Award as well as nominations for Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards. CREATIVE DIRECTOR  - As Creative Director for the National Basketball Association, he produced and directed arena shows televised live internationally on NBC and ESPN. He directed stars including HARRY CONNICK JR. and LL COOL J, coordinated complex multiple-camera shoots and produced every aspect of the broadcasts.
