Nick & RJ

Nick & RJ are passionate creators, whether for the intimate and critically acclaimed contemporary duet performed by P!nk in her music video for Try, or the Emmy winning Super Bowl XLIX halftime show starring Katy Perry, Lenny Kravitz, and Missy Elliott, which remains the most watched program in American Television History.  As choreographers and creative directors, Nick & RJ’s diversity and knack for melding classical movement with current dance expression has carried them from the worlds of ballet and Broadway, to iconic performances in television, film, music videos and live tours. Acting as members of the creative force behind Katy Perry’s rise to super- stardom, Nick & RJ fused Egyptian movement with hip hop in the Dark Horse music video, which hit over a billion views and garnered a VMA for “Best Female” video.

Madonna selected a submission created by Nick & RJ which led to choreographic contributions on both her Confessions & Sticky & Sweet Tours. Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour remains the highest-grossing tour by a female artist. This ignited their desire to use story-telling with cutting edge theatrics for the world stage.  Nick & RJ worked closely with P!nk (The Truth About Love Tour), and Katy Perry (California Dreams & Prismatic Tours), as well as Cirque Du Soleil (Immortal Michael Jackson Tour), Ricky Martin (MAS Tour), Spice Girls (The Reunion Tour), Celine Dion (Taking Chances Tour), and Keyshia Cole (A Different Me Tour).  Both the Prismatic Tour and The Truth About Love Tour were awarded Pollstar’s “Most Creative Production” award.  P!nk’s Truth About Love Tour, which aired on Epix, received a Grammy nomination for “Best Music Film”.

For Nick & RJ, a love for music and pop culture is shared equally with a love for musicals. For Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary special on ABC, they re-imagined “Step In Time” from Mary Poppins featuring Dick Van Dyke and Derek Hough, putting a fresh spin on this classic. RJ choreographed the original LA production of “Rock of Ages”, and along with Nick, modernized 60’s inspired dance to the music of The Beach Boys in “Surf” the musical at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas. They also lent their talents to the television musical event “The Passion” for FOX.

Dancing With The Stars enlisted Nick and RJ to conceptualize original dance performances, which captured the attention of Lady Gaga who tweeted, “Dancing With The Stars had an amazing performance of Heavy Metal Lover last night. Glamour!”, and P!nk, who also chimed in, “So F’ing Amazing!!”. Both of these performances were nominated for industry awards, winning a 2014 World Choreography Award for “Best Live Television Performance”.  Translating P!nk’s music video for Try into a live performance for the American Music Awards also won Nick & RJ an Industry Voice Award for “Favorite Choreography in a Live Television Performance.”

Additionally, Nick & RJ have worked with a range of artists including Fallout Boy, Years and Years, and country music rising star Thomas Rhett, as well as actress/comedian Amy Schumer for the MTV Movie Awards. They are also regulars on So You Think You Can Dance, The Grammys, Billboard Awards, and the MTV VMAs.  Commercial campaigns include Coke “Open Happiness” featuring Cee-Lo & Janelle Monae, Pepsi Super Bowl, Return of the Fantanas, Fruit of the Loom, and Adidas “All In” in which they created an original dance/workout campaign and online dance competition.
