Bijoya "BJ" Das was born and raised in Seattle, WA. Her name, Bijoya, meaning “victory”, originates from her father’s native country of India. Her first experience with dance was at the age of 4, performing Indian cultural dances among legendary musicians, Ravi Shankar and Zakir Hussain. Her dance skills wouldn’t be put to use until years later, because as soon as she watched her first summer Olympics, she fell in love with the world of competitive gymnastics. In her 14 year gymnastics career she reached level 10 and won numerous State, Regional, and National titles. Receiving the most recognition on the Floor Exercise, she discovered her natural ability for dance and performing. After an injury forced her to quit gymnastics, she decided to try dance. Inspired by artists such as Micheal and Janet Jackson, Missy Elliot, and Britney Spears, she enrolled in hip hop classes at Westlake Dance Center and instantly discovered her passion for dance. With the drive and work ethic of a true athlete, BJ excelled quickly and in a few years was ready to move to LA and follow her dream of being a professional dancer..
Since then, some of her favorite jobs include dancing on Avril Lavigne's 2008 world tour, workshopping and dancing in a T-Mobile Sidekick commercial, and more recently, doing a Reebok industrial as an honorary member of world renowned dance crew, The BeatFreaks. BJ also enjoys choreographing for both gymnastics and dance, and teaches tumbling and hip hop.
Aside from dance, BJ is a health enthusiast and is constantly learning new ways to improve the quality of life for herself and those around her. She is extremely grateful to be able to do what she loves and is excited to continue to learn, grow and inspire.
