JOHN CARRAFA is the two time Tony Nominated choreographer of URINETOWN: THE MUSICAL and Stephen Sondheim’s INTO THE WOODS. He has also received an OBIE AWARD, LORTEL AWARD, DORA AWARD, DRAMA DESK AWARD and OUTER CRITICS CIRCLE AWARD for his work in the theater. John’s a recipient of the WORLD DANCE FEATURE FILM AWARD and the MEDIA CHOREOGRAPHY HONORS for his original use of motion capture technology in the film THE POLAR EXPRESS.

John’s current/upcoming choreography works include: ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING on Hulu created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman and starring Mr. Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez;  HBO’s new historical epic, THE GILDED AGE, created by Julian Fellowes and directed by Michael Engler (Jan 2022); and DEAD TO ME, the final season, starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini (2022).

His television choreography includes a wide range of projects, both musical and non-musical, including Stephen Soderbergh’s THE KNICK, LAST WEEK WITH JOHN OLIVER, NASHVILLE, EMPIRE, TRANSPARENT and the Disney musical FREAKY FRIDAY. He regularly contributes dances to dramatic shows such as SUCCESSION, BARRY, THE BLACK LIST, PRODIGAL SON and THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT.

John was the director and co-writer of the original Broadway musical GOOD VIBRATIONS and made his episodic TV directing debut on the ABC/CMT show NASHVILLE. John is proud member of both the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers (SDC) and the Directors Guild of America (DGA).

Having spent much of his career working in the development of new musicals, John is currently preparing his first original project for a reading in January 2022.

Upcoming, his choreography will be seen in the 1922 period drama THE CHAPERONE written by Julian Fellowes, Season 2 of BARRY with Bill Heder, the SYFY series HAPPY! with Ann-Margret and Christopher Meloni, the crime drama 21 BRIDGES starring Chadwick Boseman and THE KITCHEN with Melissa McCarthy, Elisabeth Moss, and Tiffany Haddish.
